Dear pinky0926, I understand what you mean because at first I used to believe he was playing the bumblebee too. But a few months after the movie came out, I went to buy the soundtrack CD. And believe me I have listened to the bumblebee recording from the CD (which was performed by D. Helfgott himself) hundreds of times, and compared it to the one in the movie, and both performances are 100% identical! So it's a clear sign for me that Mr. Rush did a great job at miming the hand movements

Dear elopezca - that may be true about Hungarian rhapsody, but I have a feeling he's really playing the bumblebee here. I say this because it would have been easy for the film to get a concert pianist to do the job, and if they had done, it would have been a lot cleaner than this. Perhaps its just because its a cheap piano, but a pro would have done it much better. Still one of the best scenes of all time though :)

Mr. G. Rush certainly learned to mime the hand movements for the music pieces in the movie. Take for example the scene where he plays Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2. If you know the notes and watch the scene in slow motion, you will notice that he does not hit the correct piano keys. He mimes it very well, though.

i don't know what they use, but for a similar sound (slightly bigger sounding) my setup is a MXR Dyna Comp, Turbo Rat (filter up high), Holy grail (hall turned up to full), boss dd-20, line 6 verbzilla. Hoping to get one of the Devi Ever effects pedals soon - they're good for that kind of sound - apparently Kevin Shields uses their pedals alot.
