Hi, Congrats on getting yourself a Crime Buster. Yes, there is a little door on the backside of the rifle and a small metal bracket goes inside and it holds two silver flints. As you probably know, the flints cause sparks in the red barrel when you pull the metal handle on the front of the rifle. I think they still sell flints for the old style cigarette lighters, but finding a "flint bracket" will be a challenge. Send your email address in the messages here and I'll send some pics. DD

Thanks for the support. Normally, I just ignore that stuff but this jerk went and commented on every video I had. I deleted his rubbish but fired off on him here and left that one. Many Johnny Sevens show up on UK Ebay and some "taty" ones are offered but you may fair better by buying one from the US. They go for less money and even "taty" ones in the UK seem to go for a lot of money.

I bought this off of a guy who had some old toys that were never used. I asked him how he had obtained them and he really didn't answer other to say that he picked up the items here and there. I have some other mint and un-used toys and I'm always amazed that they were never used. I sometimes suspect these may have been toys bought for a child who died, and many times, the parents leave the childs room as it was intact with their toys to keep the memory alive or it was simply old store stock.

There is a glitch on youtube and I can't reply to my own video comments so I had to create a similar name. The "exploding grenade" will come apart after being fired and hitting something. You can then put it back together to re-fire. It also doesn't make any sound upon impact, where the cap grenade will make a sound upon impact if a cap is loaded.

Greetings Andy from across the pond! Folks from the UK love the Johnny Seven and I've sold about 12 of them to the UK! Don't get me wrong, as they love them here in the USA too. Not sure how long they were in production but I'd say production stopped somewhere around 1968. I'm happy to spark those memories. Check out the UK ebay, they show up all the time there but cost more than they do in the US. Cheers!

hi dezurtdude i had forgotten all about my johnny seven - how long were they in production dude as i got mine for christmas but ithink it was a little after 1964 - the first thing to go were the handgun bullets i ended up with three - then the side missile,the springs could have been more robust as that one jammed never to work again,and the tommy gun that was a loud clatter man - as you say they were played with hard - thanks for bringing it all back -cheers dude - from andy in lil ole england

Actually, the toys on the top shelves of grocery stores were made by Deluxe Reading and the Topper line of toys were sold in toy stores, but they are the same company. Yes, those toys were great and out of the reach of grubby little hands way up on those shelves. My sister and I used to bug the heck out of our parents to buy us those toys.

I just found my old Gaylord in the basement. I'd forgotten all about him until I saw your video. I was 5 years when I got him for Christmas in 1962. I asked Santa for a puppy and Gaylord is what I got. I never played with him much because he scared me a lot, just like he scares your cat. If I root around some more downstairs, maybe I'll find the bone. Thanks for posting the video. I'd never have looked for him otherwise. Now, if only I can find my old Zero M guns. Second childhood is great!

Not having seen your toy gun it is hard for me to make an assessment of its value, however, I've seen ones that weren't in the greatest shape, but still worked go anywhere from $49.00 to about $150.00 on Ebay. The example I've shown above would be in the $300.00+ range.

I think the term "burp gun" refers to the "ba-rappppppp" (rat-ta-tat) sound it makes. The subsequent Mattel machine gun was called the "tommy burst" gun and has a bolt you pull back to fire as opposed to this gun that is crank operated.

Hi, This was purchased from a guy who had some old toy store stock and this was part of it. Good luck finding one like this. This is a real rarity. You can Google Mattel Tommy Burp Gun and you'll find a western cap gun website called Nichols or something like that and there is a mint one there (the only other mint one I've other than mine) as well as other cool Mattel Machine Guns. Worth a look! Chuck

Part 4-The 60's seems to be the golden age of toys and they most toys were made in the good old USA. Yes, older toys are out there but lack the appeal of the 60's toys and many of these toys would not be made today due to safety concerns. "You'll shoot your eye out with that gun!", and due to everything being politically correct now days. These toys grow scare with time which adds to the demand and increased prices. I hope this helps. Part 3-Kids of the 60's are now aging baby boomers and long for the times that provided them the most fun. I get lots of emails saying how they had forgotten all about a particular toy I had posted and the wonderful memories it brought back. I don't play with toys, I just collect them. Finding one mint in the box is a rare treat and it is like going back into time. Also, the price of these toys can be very high, so playing with them ruins the value for serious collectors.

Part 1-Excellent question! What usually happens to toys that kids got after they got them? After a short while, they were either broken or the majority of the pieces are missing. The boxes take up room, so mom usually tossed them out, making them rare. To find a toy that is close to 50 years old is tough enough, let alone finding one that has never been used.

Thanks for the comment. Yup, I'm a toy geek. I found this gun at a yard sale around the block from me here in Phoenix and it was full of crud and coated with dirt and dust and didn't work. I took it home, took it apart and the metal contacts were coated with corrosion from batteries being left in the gun. I cleaned the connections and all internal parts and put it back together, cleaned it up and you see the results. Please see my other vintage toy vids. Thanks
