Well, no, technically contrabass parts are generally written in treble as well. But the random piece might have it, or even a bass clarinet in bass clef, or the piece not have a part for a CB/B Clr, so they would double the tuba/trombone/or whatever. It's all a matter of who's writing it. :) I'm a bass clarinet player too, I've seen both. Who's up for some tenor clef music?? :P

yay! i play bass clarinet too(hence the BC in my screen name)! it's hard when you first try it out cause you have to work to build a good embouchure. but once you play it for a while, it's not so bad... unless you change to a stronger reed. i march with a 4 right now and i'm hoping to go to 4.5 or 5. it's a really cool instrument and i recommend more people try it!

She is amazing. I'm playing this piece for an audition, and I have gained valuable insight from her performance. This isn't the robo-piece most instrumentalists are used to in the band setting. Truly the best work for clarinet, in my opinion.

This woman inspires me. I think the way she does her "strut on the stage" is very intimidating. Not only does she sound great, she moves great. She's not standing up there like a statue and look boring, leading the audience to doze off at one point during the song(s). A clarinetist may look at her and think, "Oh, well I sound just as nice but there's no way I could pull that off", or, "Well, I can sure as hell pass off my talent and impress WITHOUT some sort of style". Thus, Intimidation.

You guys must have a different grading system than I'm on. I played this piece in 10th grade and got a superior at district and an excellent at state. (That's what i get for only practicing once a week). Brahms is good, but so is Hindemith. They are about the same level of difficulty.

I'm a 14 year old clarinettist who's been playing for a couple of years. You obviously "kedav" don't understand the genius of mozart and this intricicies of the piece that make it so beautiful and so famous. I love this recording and especially love the tempo. I'm playing this song in a tour of austria at the end of the year and find this piece challenging for the depth u must put in, and for the challenging rhythm. grow some skill kedav.

This has to be my favourite piece to play - it's so beautiful. However, I find the third movement (rondo) more challenging, so its more fun in a way. But, obviously I'm not as good as it as I am at the adagio. Haha. Mozart really was a genius.

yeah it takes a while to get used to. V12 will enable you to play easier, but 56's can make you stable even in high registers. Your tone may change also.

I think it's just that I'm not used to the 56's, or maybe I just got a bad batch, but sometimes when I sustain a note, I break. So I prefer V-12's but I do use 56's just to try and get used to them.

No, you misinterpreted what I said, I meant that there are just some people who have a certain sound that can just make you laugh, cry, or just be astounded. My sound is my sound, that's the one thing every musician that nobody can take away. I just don't have the kind of sound that could compare to Arties.

What problem are you experiencing? Sound? Playing? I don't like the Rue Lepics-I think they suck. The Vandoren V12 reeds are great. Its possible your mouthpiece doesn't compliment your reed type. I'll let you know which mouthpiece I use. Remember, too, that embochure has a lot to do with the quality of your sound.

Bawlsmouth! I love your name. Every single action that a musician carries out takes brain power. So, say it takes 90% of your working mind to make a phrase. But, it takes a bunch of concentration to make the embouchure, breathe, etc. Any extra thing, such as crazy movements like these, take away from your available resources. So, I agree with you up to the point where you talk of talent. Maybe you meant to add "relatively" to your statement. Compared to a mud pit he is crazy awesome.

Yes, moving may be entertaining OR useless, but has anyone thought that it may mildly affect the player's breathing, tone, etc. You may move a certain way and constrict an air pathway or something. Sabine Meyer does match her moving with her dynamics, so se doesn't go into my criticism. (although I would prefer her moving less) 3. Karl Leister and Andrew Marriner rarely move. So do violin virtuosos like Menuhin and Heifetz, as well as Oistrakh. 4. and surely, moving is of no use except keeping the audience's eyes entertained.

His movements aren't because he's nervous, he's letting his emotions from the music flow in the form of motion. Many professional musicians do this. And "he forgot to memorize the music"?, he has a stand holding his sheet music right in front of him. He doesn't suck, he plays this piece very beautifully. Please, do not critique on something you are obviously inexperienced with.

My highschool freshman band is playing Woodwind Polka (the same song, but arranged by Andy Clark for a full band) and I'm the only one that can play it. (I play clarinet) Ours is a little simpler than this(ours is Grade 3). As a band, we suck at playing it. Imagine laying your arm across a piano O_o. But i thought you all did a great job!

Bartok's Romanian Folk Dances transcribed from the violin/piano. On one of the free music sheet sites they have the piece for a clarinet quintet. The mandolin really adds to the piece though. The transcribed piece I have asks for three Bb clarinets, a bass clarinet and an Alto clarinet. So this piece is slightly different. You may want to try contacting the group's manager and asking about it.

That is true, but if you notice she moves her whole upper body, so I imagine it isn't as band as just swinging your instrument around haha besides, you could do some serious damage to your clarinet doing that, or even the person next to you. At least by moving so much of your upper body, you give the person next to you warning that they may be hit!
