RE: Didn't know the lead singer, Joseph, is John Williams' son, the famous composer. That's very true but Joseph doesn't sing on this track. That's actually keyboardist David Paich on lead vocals. I always thought he was an underated singer & was one of the best singers in the band. Joseph Williams didn't become the lead singer of Toto until 1986 which was 4 years after Africa came out.

Jaakko Löytty, Finnish gospel artist who was raised in Africa where his parents were in mission work, used this melody in 1980's when he composed gospel song "Kuule Isä Taivaan Pyyntö Tää" (Dear Lord Hear My Little Prayer) which is well known and beloved among the children of Finland. I have exampled learnt to sing this Finnish version in sunday school and church's children clubs back in 80's and 90's. Nice melody. I wonder what the original lyrics tell about?

You are being very unjust! Firstly you can not generalize topics like that - I know way too many nice South Africans to support your idea of "damn South Africans"! Additionally, of course it's horrible what is happening to immigrants at present, but you also always have to have some sort of understanding! Composer taught in Zulu as well as Xhosa. Composer was born in a geographically Xhosa area, however his inspirations could be argued to have had a Christian African influence. In this regard the Zulu Nation can rightfully claim it, as they arguably were the ones who sufferred the most durring that painful era when the composer composed the song.
