I believe the f-16 was ground once in its early days, due to some the wire harnesses where installed improperly and started rubbing and shorting out causing the pilot to loose control of the fly by wire system.

F-16's are lighter and have a large engine therefore they can out turn the 15 (due to the 15 being heavier even though it has larger wings). Take a look in nature when you might see when a large vulture or eagle being attacked by smaller birds when the larger one might be near the little birds nest. The smaller birds always dominate over the larger ones in the air battle because they can out manuvure the larger preditors BUT only in the air and NOT on the ground. That's just my opinion.

Yeah no doubt. My brother graduated from the aerospace program at Middle Tennessee State U. Then to Air Force O.C.S. He is now a C-130 pilot. MTSU's flight school has an almost 93% flight school passing rate, one of the best in the country. Anyway, you do need a college degree or equivalent to fly in the Air Force.

To fly an F-16 - at least in the US military - you must have a college degree.. No way around it.. For those of you thinking about talking to a recruiter - recruiters will lie to you to fill any slot they have open... If you want to fly in the US military, you need to get good grades in high school, major in a technical degree in college, blow the AFOQT out of the water and get commissioned into a service. If a recruiter tells you you can fly JETS as an enlistee - they are lying to you..

It is a J22 Orao. It is similar to the Jaguar but the fusalage is more rounded in profile. The 02 R1 was always going to be taken on a 2 mile runway by the Porsche. I have a GSXR1000K3 and the chap two doors down has a Murcielago. I would not get away from him anywhere (unless there is traffic) after 70-80 MPH.

The pilot or maintenance crew could never overheat the engine. Only a faulty component could do that. But in burner the only thing heating is ur exhaust which is still getting cooling from bypass air. Gorund crew have a max time limit of usually 1 minute in minimum aug and 1 minute in max aug. Mainly for reducing wear a tear on ground runs. I'd hate to have to change a flameholder or liner if the limits for running in aug were higher. lol

Wouldn't it be a better learning experience to have them in an inferior aircraft? If you over-train, when the shit actually hits the fan, you will have that much more under your belt. You will learn to use the best of yourself, and rather than let the aircraft do some of the work for you, you have to push your aircraft to its limits and push yourself to your own to survive. Sounds like damn fine training to me...

As I said, stealth also means reduced heat signature. As for Jane's, that is not an official source, but even so I couldn't find any estimate of the radar's range there. AFAIK maximum range of the AN/APG-77 has not been officially disclosed. 120nm is extremely low though, even the F-16 which is older and not so much BVR oriented has a radar with a 160nm max range.

Concerning the IRST, that was only concerning my initial statement of the AP-71 eqalling the APG-77's range. First of all I don't know where you got that the AN/APG-77 has a max range of around 100nm, I believe it is not published but it is reported to have a maximum detection range against a fighter sized target of over 180nm. And it's max range will be even higher. I also don't know where you got that the IRST has the same range as the AN/APG-71, it is reported to be able to ID a 747 at 100nm, for a fighter sized target it will be significantly less (maybe even half of that).

It's not the kids fault - his instructor (dad) needs retraining on how to get somebody ready. That F-16 will slow right down and fly a proper jet approach. Duplex is incorrect. Viper and Fighting Falcon are exactly the same thing. When the F-16 was introduced the airmen who operated it, joked that it looked like "Viper." The fighter from the television show Battlestar Galactica. General Dynamics and later Lockheed never made an aircraft which they called Viper. The unofficial nickname kind of stuck and worked its way into the vernacular of the Fighter enthusiast.

The F-15 are showing signes of fatigue on the Airframes and the entire fleet has been grounded 3 time in short succession after several incidents where they fell apart mid flight. It's only a matter of time before the early built blocks start showing the same problem. Its bettter for the lives of the pilots. Besides its like driving a 1970 ford F-100; There is far better technology now to put in jets and we need to stay up to date to be a lethal fighting force.

The official cause of this crash was pilot error. The pilots altimeter was set to msl(mean sea level).It was supposed to be set to agl(above ground level) there was approx. a 100' differance in the two. On top of the loop he calls out his altitude which was too low for the manuever msl.
