You question my facts yet you are referencing WIKIPEDIA. Now there's a credible source. LOL. Alright Mr. Facts. I didn't imply Canada isn't making money, of course I'd be highly surprised if they are making more than the US is (economics 101 right?). (The United States accounts for almost half of the global pharmaceutical market -- Wikipedia) And no one said anything about ALL research being done in the US either. To imply that drug companies are not making money in CAN is inaccurate/misleading. Economics 101.. if they weren't making money they wouldnt be selling the drugs in CAN. It's amazing how Amer. think all drugs/medical research is done in the US. Many companies do research in CAN to take advantage of CAN's R&D tax credit program. You're right, SOME drugs are cheaper in Canada due to government bureaucracy. BUT, what companies in what country DEVELOPED the drugs in the first place? Many of them are made right here in the good ole USA. The reason they are more expensive is because the research is expensive. Regulate the cost and remove the incentive. There are alternatives, but its definitely a tightrope ... You can only steal from "the rich" for as long as there are "rich" to steal from.

The point was that the UHC in the UK is rewarding their doctors and driving better patient results than the US. Yet this is your so called gov't "bureaucracy" where results are still better than the US. You are also wrong about medicine in CAN. The Canadian system is Gov't price controlled and is the reason why many Americans purchase their medicine from Canada(ie.cheaper). In fact there have been a few US politicians that have advocated US citizens to buy their medicine from Canada.

When you can't dispute the facts, you make baseless accusations of the people conducting the study. This is typical dishonest right wing tactic. You said healthcare providers need to be rewarded, here's the UK doing just that and getting results. It's just another way the UHC system is driving results superior to the US private system. In fact the head of the Canadian Medical Association wants to bring this same system of reward to Canada. Makes sense.

You miss the point. If the US had such "strong libertarian ideals" the gov't would not have bailed out these corps. Which renders your point above FALSE. The reason Canada does not support a private system like the US is because IT DOESN'T WORK. It is not that we are so much more responsible than Amercns but it is that we have the ACCESS to healthcare and utilize the system to better manage our health. Of the US uninsured, 30.4% have an unmet health need due to cost, 7 times higher than CAN.

Also, you bring up an irrelevant point- the UK has SOCIALIZED medicine, where the government provides the infrastructure and employs the workers... NO ONE of importance in the US (not even the most socialist politicians) are advocating socialized medicine. Canada doesn't even have socialized medicine. Ha, good luck getting American doctors to be able to get "results" from many American patients. You'd need to infect obese people with dysentery to get them to lose weight. You failed to mention co-author of the study Dr. David Himmelstein. If Dr.Woolhandler is biased then according to your logic, Dr. Himmelstein must be as well. What is his reason for a bias in this? As seen in Sicko, the UK rewards their Doctors for achieving patient results as is done in employment in non-govt positions. Excuse me for finding the bias in this doctor, but it DOES exist. I'd imagine a 34 year old specialist doctor with a mound of debt wouldn't appreciate your or Dr.Woolhandler's delegating of altruism (it requires no self sacrifice on your part to do so). The dishonest right states that healthcare systems in other countries have nothing to do with the fact that other countries have more healthier people than in the US.Yet as reported by the Harvard Medical School(US Study) and published in the July 2006 American Journal of Public Health, those Amercns that have good health insurance are identical in health to Canadians. I never had dry eye with contact lenses compared to the dry eye POST LASIK. Now I understand why. In 5-7years, every LASIK person's eyes will probably change, then they will have to go back into contacts anyway. When you/they do, they will discover what millions of us now have to live with, and that is that your eye's nerves were cut with the FLAP creation, never again to produce sufficient tear film needed to keep your eyes healthy. Now you have contacts on and they burn all day long...

I had PRK done. This is what I am saying. So far the recovery has been good. I couldn't see well at all for the first week, but now things are clear. I see Halos at night still and I have been using medicated drops daily. I wake up with dry eyes still, but I am told this goes away.

I too am a victim of LASIK. I too bought in to all of the lies telling me that it was painless, safe, proven, and had a 95% success rate. All lies. Every year my eyes get dryer and dryer and I'm wondering if my eye is dying from having had the nerves cut never to regrow since the LASIK FLAP was created. I never had dry eye or eye pain until I paid a LASIK Lying Quack Charlatan $5k to ruin my eyes and thus my life. Every LASIK surgery is a failure because it leaves you with permanent dry eye

I just had mine done a month ago...you don't feel anything at all, just a little pressure at the beginning. the thing they use to hold your eye open...i thought it would feel weird, but you don't even notice them putting it in. it's actually not uncomfortable at all. go for it. it's worth it. i had hardly any pain the following days, just a little bit of scratchy feeling like hair in my eyes.

My friend also tore his ACL but he chose the cadaver surgery. It has a little more risk because your body could reject the graft due to contamination from the previous owner if I remember correctly. However, the cadaver graft is less painful and you will be able to walk sooner then you would with the patella/hamstring graft.

The worst part is the first couple weeks of therapy. DO THE EXERCISES THEY TELL YOU TO DO AT HOME!!! I didnt do so and suffered for it. I cant run as fast as before, jump as high, and after sustained periods of physical activity my knee gets extremely sore. It also doesnt help when your insurance stops paying for therapy when you are at an "average" persons strength, not your previous strength or even close to it. I also had patella graft which is said to be more painful and heals longer.

still can't straighten!!! can bend knee fine but it seems like it will never straighten. this is prob cos i have injury whilst playing fotball in JUNE ....and i've only just had operation, so i've had my knee slightly bent for 6 months!!! gonna take a while to straighten, also don't think i'll be able to play footy again

Had mine done (plus medial meniscus repair) done about 8 weeks ago... I walked into the hospital with no pain, able to straighten it etc. Don't count on any weights for a while. At age 18, during a long tumble down a cliff while skiing, I snapped my ACL in half ("like two ends of a mop" my Dr. said while looking at the cat scan). I had surgery and it was fine. (No catheter, to weird side effects, etc.) At about 3 or 4 weeks out, my physical therepist didn't know what to do with me because I was already about to normal and still had 2 weeks of PT prescribed. Pain was minimal, although the meds were pretty great... Don't walk around in pain...get the surgery! :)

it went pretty good...im walking fine now after bout 7weeks(with a walking brace of course) but yea the first three days i guess the drugs make you feel useless and depressed but then things get better, my physical therapist says i can start playing at about 12weeks, so its not the end of sports, PT gets kinda hard but nothing to serious im 15 too! seems alot of kids my age are messing up haha gotta be more careful

im 16 so we're close in age. and i was scared too! but they drug you up so much you dont care what they do really haha. GET A NERVE BLOCK! that saved my life basically. it made me not hurt as bad right after surgery. im 3 months out and im doing great! im starting to job again and weight lift. start walking like the day after surgery to regain strength and BEND YOUR KNEE! i walked straight legged haha. it just made me limp worse... let me know how it all goes! good luck!

I had mine done almost 8 weeks ago. Honestly there is no need to be nervous!... For some reason I didn't get nervous until i walked into the thearte room. You'll feel like crap the first 3 days, the pain isn't too bad, but it's frustrating and i sorta got emotional lol. But from you progress very fast. I was walking in less than 2 weeks. Stay positve and do you physio excerises everyday if you can :)
