This song disturbs me. A black man doesn't have to look like a lavishly blinged-out prisoner to be a soldier. My husband (who grew up in the projects of Fitzgerald, GA) is a beautiful, God-fearing man who takes care of his family, and his style of dress is stylish-conservative. At the very worst, some people think he may have actually compiled some of the stories of others into one more linear tale. However, I'm not even saying I think that's the case. But, yes, that particular part just seemed almost too awful and coincidental to have happened, but I certainly don't claim to know. I wasn't there. Either way, his prose and mastery of the English language are truly amazing, as well as his ability to describe situations with such lucid and visceral detail.

i was kind of angry by this partt of the book...it just looked a little too fake...but i guesss if he really would have found his family then the point of the book would have been flawed...he wud have never joined the army....u can say he was meant to join ...but the book itself is just a marvel..his vivid descriptions of everything make me think i am actually there with him....great story...just finished 2 daysz ago..

I haven't finished the book yet, but it is amazing, so far. I'm simply baffled by the part where, after several months, he's only minutes from getting to see his family when they're all killed. The timing of that seems almost too outlandish to be real. It probably is, though. That part was a little unclear, though. He said he saw "ashes" in the home his family was staying in, but doesn't elaborate. Was that the burned remains of his family, or what? I didn't quite get that part.

join the service. If you go into the army reserves you could get what I have. I have a 20,000$ enlistment bonus and I have student loan repayment. Also after your time is up you get the G.I. bill which helps pay for future education. I'm glad that you are considering the service. You could also look at ROTC and then have a very comfortable life. The choice is yours.

I guess it depends on if you want free college or not? I actually payed for my tuition for the spring semester today and... well lets just say it took about four pay checks. My brother signed up for the free college but so far he has enjoyed most of the time he has been enlisted and it sounds like he is gonna extend his contract. Havent really told you anything I'm sure you dont already know as far as if you should sign up or not, but if you have a question go ahead and ask me.

That was a mistake on my part. I am a big fan of the White Stripes so when I heard about the Raconteurs, I thought 'great more White Stripes-style music' I was gravely mistaken and now after listening to the album many times over, they do bear a striking resemblance to Zeppelin. This is especially evident on the song Level, which is my favourite right after Broken Boy Soldier. Again my apologies for being to quick to pass judgement.

It can do the same when soldiers are no longer willing to be like the toys that rich kids get for Christmas. There were hundreds of thousands of conscientious objectors in WWII and in WWI only 1/4 fired on the enemy even when fired upon and with their own life at stake.
