Hi, I don't think HorrisNorris meant anything bad by what they said... I think they just meant a video overblown with ideas/special effects. It's more about making something to fit the mood, and feeling of the music with their stuff. Nature and nostalgia are definite key points. Even though there are no words this still comes through strongly, and i definitely get that from this video, nicely done!

Yep... this is indeed quite beautiful soloing and dynamics, BUT not more than quite plain changes in E Maj. Prism does begin with a cadence in E Maj but that's about as common as it goes with this... there's at least some 4-5 key modulations along the piece, plus it's one of the most beautiful, intricate harmonic creations I've heard in recent Jazz... I nursed through a heartbreak listening to the "Changes" version on repeat through 6 months... Man, you just can't end learning from it.

BTW for anyone interested in hearing Prism, jarrett recorded it on "personal mountains" (first version) and then with the trio on "changes". Recently Brad Mehldau Recorded it with Charlie Haden and the late M Brecker, on the album "american dreams". I don't love this last version, but it's a great band.

of course it's not prism. It's a vamp on one chord. It's very very beautiful. but has nothing whatsoever to do with prism. Maybe it's a coda "after" a version of prism. Nonetheless it's a very cool moment of improvised music. thumbs up!

I dont get it...ive seen transcriptions of prism and heard other versions and they seem to have loads more changes and sound completely different to this which seems to be just a vamp in E between E, C?m and A. This is a really long vamp at the end of 'Prism'. It sounds far better in the context of the entire tune. The more complex harmonies of the tune preceding this give this simple pentatonic vamp great contrast. I wish someone would upload the entire tune. It would be far better.

I'm not positive, but I think she meant that there are simliar movements. It's well known that the peacock dance originated from the Dai ethnic group, and it used to be a male dance. I do not know of any Uzbek peacock dances, but there might be Uzbek dances with similar movements to imitate different birds.

But i wouldnt be surprise if the Uzbeks would have a similar dance coz they did lived on central asia and on the chinese "silk road" and its actually written in their text that they traded influences w/ the chinese, indians, persians. But i hav read a text that say the "peacock dance" originated in india, from the "murrugan cult". But i dont knw if this is true

I really dont knw of any uzbek peacock dance, perhaps ur teacher said thery were only similar? and yes the performers presently look like "princes tu tu" but i think that only coz of modernization and westernization coz the original dancers of it were actually male, wearing masks, feathers and wings.

The Chinese Peacock dance and the Uzbek Peacock dance are very similar is style. Music and costuming are how you can tell the two dances apart. Uzbek uses the Middle Eastern music, and the costuming is very Persian. While the Chinese Peacock dance is from the Dai area of Southern China, and the costume has more of a Thai influence in style.

I copied her answer here too: The other main difference between the two dances, on how much Western Ballet in thrown into the dance style choregraphy. You will see more Ballet in the Chinese Peacock dance. Even the costume has a strong ballet "Swan Lake" tu-tu look about it. Even to the use of Ballet point shoes. The Uzbek style, you will see the dancer wearing boots, or Spanish Flamaneco/Tap shoes with their costume. The wear a Persian hat with a peacock feather.

He is also right about the Dai being buddhis, thus peacocks an important part in their religious literatures. That is why they love peacocks. This should have been obvious to u since the chinese r well known for their dances that immitate animals: Crane, lion, and dragon dance. Makes sense right? hmmm i think u didnt get hes point i think the point danwongC is trying to say is that ur wrong about the origin of the peacock dance. And hes right, the peacock dance didnt originate from the uzbekis. It originated from the Dai people w/c r descendants of the Baiyue. And the Dai, being Baiyue, r CHINESE. Well their also closely related to Thai people, thats why the peacock dance has similarities to thai ethnic dances.
