So trucks are "semi-automatic" in a way? If you flip the switch but do not change lever position, you do not need to engage the clutch, right?

How do you go from direct to over (whatever using the grey button is)? Don't you have to use the clutch to release torque? I'm only used to 10 speeds.

you say youre not using the clutch. does that mean you're hitting the splitter as you pass through neutral while going up through the gears? im curious how youre working the splitter without the clutch.

What gear do you run on the Hwy.? What rear end is in the truck? I have been thinking of getting my CDL or learner permit and was just wondering about these things.

I guess when your good enough you will only use the clutch from a dead stop. I do my jeep this way sometimes. The switches are a different story, but you still don't have to clutch it. This is why a big truck can go 1 million+ miles "I think" on the oem clutch. Plus they have 2 clutch disc.

"when they downshift, they have an awful problem finding a gear they can get the truck in. " thats because if you don't use the clutch when downshifting, you dont use the transbrake, so you need to rev the engine higher than usual to match the speed of the transmission.
