The times posted are for MDT and 40 deg. North latitude, ie Denver. Jupiter GRS and moon transits will be correct if you adjust for timezone. Sunrise/Sunset times depends primarily on latitude so that will vary depending on how far north/south you are. ISS crosses the US in a few minutes so the times quoted will be close if adjusted for TZ. It may or may not be visible in a particular location. Also its only visible for a few minutes so easy to miss. You need to check times for your location.

We've had that problem here too as well. Most city parks and county open space areas are closed from dusk to dawn. Understandable from a city and county manpower view but a problem for us who like to observe in the dark. Most agencies will allow it if you get a special use permit in advance. Of course that gets expensive and weather is difficult to predict. Check with a local astronomy club, they may have a friendly business, observatory, or planetarium that lets people observe without hassle.

Me and my son went to the darkest place I know around Pittsburgh. We went to south park on the highest point... Perfect spot. We saw about 7 in 20 minutes. We only left because a cop pulled up and told us we had to leave, THE PARK IS CLOSED! I was very upset he treated us like criminals. I just wanted my 11 year old son to have a extraordinary science experience! UGH! BTW He Loved what he saw! Go MOM!

It depends on how dark your skies are, what time you look, and how good your vision is. From an urban location you might see only 2-3 per hour at the peak time 3-4 am. From a really dark location you might see 50 or so.

Congrats to all who got to see some of the Perseids! I personally only saw a few last night, I couldn't get away from the bright city lights this time. Last year we were under the awesome dark skies at Fox Park, WY. Great experience, laying on cushions on the ground looking up at the milky way with meteors streaking by. Felt as though we were floating around the blackness of space with an awesome view of all the bright stars.

If i were to stay out there for an hour how many will i see?
By: SkyThisWeek. on 13 Aug 08, 01:01:44
The Perseid meteor shower peaked last night but continues through Aug 24 so there should be a good number this evening as well. Unfortunately the moon sets quite a bit later tonight, around 2:40 am. You can still see some of the brighter ones in moonlight and light polluted urban skies. But nothing like the show under really dark skies.
