It even got an NC-17 in 1993... and still hits hard today. It will put hair on your chest.

Note the weaponry - Colt 1911 pistols, water-cooled machine guns, bolt-action rifles - stuff that wouldn't be out of place in either World War, but here it is, in a Western. Very nice touch, that shows how far into the modern era these men continued to exist.

pyke gets shot in the back, turns around and says, "bitch!" and blows away a woman with a shotgun. gotta love sam for having the balls to film such scenes.

Just caught this ending just now on the AMC movie station. I forgot how good this movie is. But this final shoot out scene is unreal. Great movie one of the best westerns.

Of course. Woo himself admits that and calls "The Wild Bunch" his favourite film, I think.
By: starlightangel20. on 25 Dec 08, 06:12:34
True. And I do rank Woo below Peckinpah and Leone, but I still insist that the whole gun opera style that Woo practices has some viens running back to this.
By: DonFarshido. on 21 Dec 08, 03:12:38
Nothing against John Woo, but his way of mixing violence and melancholia is more comparable to Walt Disney than to the brutal honesty and heartfelt tenderness of Sam Peckinpah. Don't get me wrong, I like Woo. But Peckinpah should rather be mentioned next to the likes of John Cassavetes than to any of today's genre-directors. They just can't touch him.

need more movies like sick of seeing CGI flicks like no story or any emotions

If you ever wondered what John Woo must have watched religiously before making movies, look no further than Peckinpah. Glorious and unapologetic gun opera that still holds up today.

See my reply of a few days ago. It's "La Golondrina" ("The Swallow"), also known as "El Adios" ("The Goodbye") and is an old Mexican folk song.
By: Willtreme. on 13 Nov 08, 15:38:49
I don't know if this question has already been answered by someone else, but the song is an old Mexican folk song, "La Golondrina," which means "The Swallow" (that is, the bird). It is also know as "El Adios" ("The Goodbye") and was (maybe still is) often sung in Mexican family gatherings on the occasion of some family member's leaving the area, usually to go far away and maybe never to be seen again.

Saw this on its release in 1969. It was rated X (yes , an X rating) for its "excessive violence". Still one of my top ten films of all time for its poetic themes of aging, loyalty, and personal conviction...A visual masterpiece long before the advent of CGI..

It's got to be the greatest choreographed shoot out of all time. Don't you wish you were one of them? The camaradarie and the love they had for each other.

I wanna hear the Music, which always plays when the wild bunch appears...that would be amazing.
By: akiratubo. on 15 Sep 08, 06:15:25
Yeah, that's pretty much the best shootout ever.
By: freddaahh. on 11 Sep 08, 16:27:06
Damn, for a sixties film, that is pretty violent, Peckinpah was really ahead of his time with films like this.

Holden shooting the woman...That alone was rather risque, even by today's standards.
